This month the highly anticipated Formula 1 (F1) race comes to Austin, Texas. From November 16 to 18, racing fans will be traveling to Austin to watch their favorite drivers compete in what is considered the most prestigious form of racing in the world.
F1 is not the same as NASCAR. The cars are vastly different and NASCAR events are typically held on oval-shaped tracks. In F1, the cars are lightweight, aerodynamic and extremely fast. The events are held at circuits across the world with right and left turns.
With the F1 race only two weeks away, the City of Austin is preparing for an influx of F1 visitors. On the weekend of November 16-18, race fans will crowd into the track in Elroy as well as go downtown for free festivals and concerts. Traffic congestion is expected to be a big challenge during this time. To accommodate all the visitors, Capital Metro released a comprehensive plan that includes a free bus loop downtown, a bus line that goes to the airport and back every 15 minutes, and extended MetroRail hours. Normal Capital Metro service will also continue for riders who rely on public transportation.
Also for those procrastinating race fans, some Austin-area hotels still have have rooms available during the weekend of F1. However, about 80 to 85 percent of the region’s hotel rooms have already been reserved, so race fans shouldn’t wait much longer!
The City of Austin is proud to host the F1 race and are excited for the outcome of the event. The trophies presented at the Grand Prix this year have been uniquely specialized featuring Texas lone stars and emblems, so it is an even greater honor to be a part of such a big event. Austin Visuals is excited to be in attendance and hopes everyone has a safe and fun time at F1.
