Pixar wins Oscar! – Austin Visuals Reports

It was a close fight in the animation category on Sunday night at the 85th Academy Awards and let’s say only a brave heart could survive it. And well it did!

“Brave”, the adventure story set in the Scottish highlands took the honours at the Oscar though it had close competition from 4 other great ones namely, “Wreck it Ralph”, “Frankenweenie”, “Paranorman” and “The Pirates! Band of Misfits”.  Brave was a clear favourite after its win at the BAFTA and the Golden Globe Awards, but you must agree the ‘will it won’t it’ gets to you!

Since the category for “Best Animation feature film” was introduced at the Oscars in 2002, this win marks the 7th trophy for Pixar Animation Studios.  And so the story goes that the movie, the first for Pixar starring a female protagonist  did not gain as much critical and popular acclaim as its other productions “Wall E” and “Up”. But it seems the heroic story of a Scottish princess trying to save her family tugged the right strings of the judges’ heart.

Director Mark Andrews and producer Katherine Sarafian were present at the award ceremony to receive the trophy. And it seems the party has just started at their studio!
