How Disney Began in Animation – Austin Visuals 3D Animation Studio Reports
“Animation can explain whatever the mind of man can conceive. – Walt Disney”
It would be hard to imagine how or where animation would be today if it wasn’t begun by Walter Elias Disney. His movies were mesmerizing to us as children and inspirational to us even as adults. His vision of how to create something whimsical and imaginary is something everyone can appreciate, not just those of us in the animation industry.Though we see Walt Disney Productions as a huge success now, it was not always the case. The tale of how Disney grew into its own empire is one of determination, failure, persistence,
bankruptcies, and a strongly-rooted dream to see something incredible come to life.Walt Disney showed interest in art and drawing at the early age of 7 when he sold drawings and sketches to neighbors. Later he attended night classes at the Academy of Fine Arts to fine
tune his drawing skills. He was also a cartoonist for his school’s newspaper, where he drew patriotic cartoons, more specifically WWI. Walt Disney began several short-lived and unsuccessful businesses, but each time, he took a leap of faith and literally gave his ideas all he had in hopes that they would succeed. It was during this time that Walt found that his own strength and persistence could propel him into the direction he was truly meant to go.Hoping to start yet another business before he was even 22 years old, he moved to Hollywood to start a cartoon studio with his brother, and there, his The Alice became the first long-term successful running series at the Disney Brothers’ Studio. Following this was the development of the hugely popular Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Pluto whom we still adore today.
Finally, on December 21, 1937, Disney premiered Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the very first animated full-length motion picture. The film launched Walt Disney is animation legacy, and this is how it has begun the golden age of animation. The film became the most successful motion picture of 1938 and earned over $8 million on its initial release, the equivalent of $132,085,110 today.
Since then, Walt Disney Productions has established itself as the world’s leading producer of family entertainment. Walt himself is considered a legend and a hero of the 20th century.
He combined animation and vision with creativity, imagination and optimism, touching the hearts and minds of children and adults alike. He found a way to communicate to a vast
audience, inspiring us all as we catch a glimpse into the wonderful world of Disney.
Though we at Austin Visuals 3D Animation Studio wasn’t there to witness this golden age, we share some of the same qualities that made Disney stand out from the rest. We are persistent, eager to expand our knowledge, and well-equipped to be a leader in the modern era of animation.
