Duty Dog Character Animation Project | Children’s Book Promotion
Story-Driven 2D Animation by Austin Visuals
Project Overview
This 2D custom dog character animation was commissioned by a children’s book author based in the United Kingdom who was preparing to promote a newly released illustrated children’s book across social media and digital platforms. The goal was to create a short animated story that could stand on its own as engaging content while also introducing audiences to the heart, tone, and personality of the book. Rather than producing a traditional advertisement, the client wanted something more narrative-driven—an animation that felt like a story excerpt, capable of entertaining children and parents alike while reinforcing the author’s brand and characters.
The result is a playful, character-focused 2D animation centered on Solo, an adventurous dog whose curiosity and charm quickly lead him into an unforgettable situation. This project demonstrates Austin Visuals’ ability to translate written stories into visual narratives, develop expressive 2D characters, and deliver polished animation on a tight production schedule.

Understanding the Client’s Needs
The client approached Austin Visuals with a clear objective: create animated promotional content that would help introduce a new children’s book to audiences online. As an author, the client understood that social media attention spans are short and that visual storytelling is one of the most effective ways to reach families, parents, and young readers.
Several key requirements shaped the direction of the project:
-
The animation needed to feel story-driven rather than overtly promotional
-
Characters had to be expressive, friendly, and appealing to children
-
The tone needed to balance humor, warmth, and light suspense
-
The animation had to work well as short-form social media content
-
Production needed to move quickly without sacrificing quality
Austin Visuals’ role was not simply to animate scenes, but to help structure a visual story that captured the spirit of the book while remaining accessible to audiences encountering the character for the first time.
