Cartoon Films, Ltd. was founded in England in 1933 and began making animated commercial films in England. Iwerks changed the name of Cartoon Films Limited to Cartoon Films Limited in 1936. While Powers kept the theatrical rights to his comi-color shorts, MGM kept the rights for his Flip and Willie Whopper films. In 1941, the studio changed its name to Animated Cartoons, Inc., which continued to produce shorts. Several of its early shorts are not credited to a production company; rather, they simply list Paul Fennell as the director.
